Harriet Tubman said that “Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember; you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” Many of us are dreamers; dreaming of goals we’d like to achieve or dreaming of ways to be significant in the world we live in. Chasing your dream and making it a reality is no easy task but it is extremely satisfying. It takes focus, resilience, passion, drive, dedication and commitment.
As you set about mapping the way to achieving your goals, here are 4 tips to consider:
- Chart a course
- Build A Team
- Expect delays, disappointments and set backs
- Stay focused
In this, the first of a 4 part series we will cover charting a course. Tom Landry reminds us that “Setting a goal is not the main thing. It is deciding how you will go about achieving it and staying with that plan.” To chart your course consider creating and writing out a plan to get you from where you are to where you want to go. Ponder these things:
- What will be required to make the goal a reality?
- How long will it realistically take to get there?
- Are there any special skills you will need?
- Who will this dream impact?
- Who will you need to align yourself with?
Take the time to clearly define your goal and create a blueprint of how you can achieve it. According to Bo Bennet, “The discipline you learn and character you build from setting and achieving a goal can be more valuable than the achievement of the goal itself.”
In next week’s blog, we will take a look at the 2nd component of making your dreams a reality which is building a team.
Tip of the Week: Take the plans out of your head and put them on paper. Create your map; include all the necessary steps to achieve the goal and then follow your plan.
Excellent, well written. Folks should have no problems excuting.
